Pre-filed International Passenger Manifests for GA?
Check out the attached link and read for yourself. There are links where you can get more information and file comments. Personally, I think this is not very workable and would have a negative impact on GA international flights. http://www.dhs.gov/xnews/releases/pr_1186668114504.shtm and also www.regulations.gov/idmspublic/component/main and you will need Docket # uscbp-2007-0064

CUSTOMS SEEKS NEW RULES FOR GA
(
http://www.avweb.com/eletter/archives/avflash/952-full.html#196127)
Pilots of private aircraft that cross the U.S. border in either
direction would be required to submit a roster listing everyone on
board to the Bureau of Customs and Border Protection, if a new rule
proposed this week (PDF
(
http://www.dhs.gov/xlibrary/assets/eAPIS_NPRM_091107.pdf)) is made
final. Under the proposed rule, the information must be received by
the CBP no later than 60 minutes before an arriving private aircraft
departs from a foreign location and no later than 60 minutes before a
private aircraft departs a U.S. airport for a foreign destination. The
CBP wants to check those rosters against its no-fly list. Yes, says
AOPA (
http://www.aopa.org/whatsnew/newsitems/2007/070911rules.html),
"This applies to short trips across the border with your family or
friends in your Cessna 172." The rosters must be submitted
electronically, so pilots departing from remote airports without
Internet access would have to land at another airport with Internet
service and complete the information before entering or leaving the
United States. "That's not practical," says AOPA.

Wild Mama catches early Fall in TN
Wild Mama made her run up to TN for a few days enroute to Maryland. I was surprised to see that Fall was on the way early this year as TN has had no rain for months . . . until today! Look for the trip report in Travel Log.

How do YOU react to Altitude?
Terry and Theresa will find out in October as they attend the physiology training in Oklahoma City. CAMI offers physiological training for civil aviation pilots, FAA flight crews, and FAA aviation medical examiners at their facilities in Oklahoma City, Okla. In addition to the basic academic contents, this course offers practical demonstrations of rapid decompression (8,000 to 18,000 feet AGL) and hypoxia (25,000 feet AGL) using a hypobaric (altitude) chamber, and a safe, practical demonstration of "pilot's vertigo" using a Spatial Disorientation Demonstrator.

We will be "dis-orienting" October 23rd-24th, so look for some rather dis-jointed reports from then! For more information on the physiology training, check out the FAA web site at  http://www.faa.gov/pilots/training/airman_education/aerospace_physiology/

"Wild Bill":  We are very saddened to hear the news of the loss of our friend, Bill Walker. Bill was killed in his Yak 52 March 26th while performing with his aerobatic team, Red WildBill.JPGWildBill1.JPGThunder, in the Wings Over Flagler Airshow in FL. Click HERE a short clip of an interview with Bill from the 2009 Sparta Airshow. Bill took me for a ride in his Yak 52 on March 12 - just 2 weeks ago, after we finished painting the compass rose at SRB. Note the smiles on our faces - this photo was shot after our photo mission getting aerial shots of the new compass rose from the Yak.
